May Goddess Saraswati bless you with knowledge and wisdom. Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, arts, beauty, music, and truth, is symbolized by a beautiful woman with four hands, riding on a white swan amidst water lilies. She signifies that science is akin to a beautiful woman. Her hands hold a palm leaf, a Balinese traditional book (known as lontar), a chain (genitri with 108 pieces), representing the endless nature of knowledge, and a musical instrument (guitar or wina), symbolizing the growth of science through culture. The swans represent prudence to distinguish between good and evil, and the water lilies (Lotus) symbolize holiness, being regarded as the holiest flower in Balinese culture.

The Sanskrit words 'sara' meaning "essence" and 'swa' meaning "self" combine to form 'Saraswati,' signifying "the essence of the self." In Hindu mythology, Saraswati is depicted as the divine consort of Lord Brahma, the Creator of the universe. As knowledge is vital for creation, Saraswati embodies the creative power of Brahma. Goddess Saraswati is revered by those seeking knowledge, particularly students, teachers, scholars, and scientists.

The white sari worn by the Goddess represents her embodiment of pure knowledge. With four arms denoting omnipresence and omnipotence, the two front arms display her activity in the physical world while the back arms signify her presence in the spiritual realm. The four hands represent different inner elements with specific symbolism.

Saraswati's birthday, known as Vasant Panchami, is an important Hindu festival observed annually on the 5th day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magha. Hindus celebrate this occasion with great enthusiasm in temples.
